The Digital Camera ( In Person ) Off Site

Learn the principles of optics, light, camera technology, settings, and how to use a digital camera to capture the impact that a given scene has on your mind and emotions. While some of this expertise is now captured in mobile telephone cameras, the photographer still needs to understand the strengths and the limitations of a digital camera. The Brookfield Craft Center does not provide a camera for every student, but there will be opportunities to experience such a device. Paper copies of instructor's slides can be purchased optionally and directly from the instructor for $5 at first class.

How To Write Your Memories As Well-Formed Stories ( Online )

Through memory, past events pop in and out of view. This class will show you how to join those fragments into the shape of a story. Life story writing sheds light on your own experience, connects you with readers and other writers and offers a path toward a creative future. Students will learn how to feel more confident to write memories in the form of sharable stories. Learn the answers to the following questions: What is a “story”? How to identify sharable portions of your life? How to feel more confident sharing these written pieces with other writers (and readers)? Artists of all abilities will improve their skill in mark making, observation and ability to model the form. Lessons will include techniques and methods for creating sketches. Students will create several small studies and create their own drawing.

Art practices often mirror the society from which they come. This course will explore the art of the First Peoples of the Canadian and Alaskan Arctic and Subarctic, the Inuit and Eskimo people, and how their subsistence based and sustainable lifestyles and traditions, as well as their sacred beliefs, are driven by and reflected in their artistic creations.

An extension of the introductory class, learn end-to-end workflow from image capture, metadata, bulk adjustments, and large-format printing. The Brookfield Craft Center provides six Windows PCs to run Adobe Photoshop; students may also bring their own laptops with Photoshop already installed.
